William G. Cutler's History of the State of Kansas
J. M. FEISTER, a citizen of Peabody, and proprietor of the Commercial Hotel, came to this locality in the spring of 1878, and purchased the Commercial Hotel property, which was then partially completed, and he finished it, and has since been sole owner and manager of the hotel. He was born in Lancaster County, Penn., December 17, 1813. He lived in various parts of the State for fifty-odd years, during which time he learned the tailoring trade, and also engaged in the hotel and general
merchandise business at various times, and in 1843 was married to Miss Sarah Erwine. They have six children, of whom three are still living. In 1864, he removed to Griggsville, Pike Co., Ill., where he followed the hotel-keeping and merchandising for fourteen years, although he will soon have passed his three score years and ten. Mr. Feister is still hale and hearty, and contemplates soon resigning the busy cares of life, to spend the remainder of his days in the ease and luxury that a hard earned competency will allow him.

January/FEBRUARY 2000 VOLUME 102, No. 4
Obtuse observation at graduation: The famed class ratio was 3.14 males to one female. By Reunion '99, the ratio was 2.78 to one. Dean Lucille Allen told the women to "be choosy." Maybe so, but you have to be impressed with the number of Cornell couples in the class. The men chose well. There are 20 "Smiths" who are still active class members. Happy 50th wedding anniversary wishes to Howard F. Smith Jr., Tom Cohill, Mary Finn Hauser, and Joan Feistel Griffis. The way you all roam this world, you must be the delight of the travel industry!
Illinois Newspaper Genealogy Columns
Most genealogical columns limit queries to 50 words or less, so keep this in mind. You should place your query in a newspaper that is closest to the area that you are searching for your ancestors. Be as specific as possible, which means including names, years, and counties. Most newspaper queries return good results, if you remember to be specific in your search.
